In the middle of March 2009, we received an e-mail from Sarah Slean saying she wanted to shoot a video for "The Rose" from "The Baroness Redecorates" - a collection of b-sides and arrangements from her previous LP recording sessions. She had the song selection and wanted it to somehow incorporate experimental/interpretive dancer Lucy Rupert.
We created & designed a 20+ page graphical treatment and submitted it to BravoFact! - which accepts applications from all over Canada four times a year and selects 20 projects, awarding production grants up to $25,000. In August, we were one of the projects selected by BravoFact and the one day shoot took place in Toronto, Ontario on March 5th, 2010.
The resulting video is a mash-up of dance, theatrics & puppetry set in a small town community theatre in the 1940s. A nostalgic vaguely-based-on-a-true-story within a story of a women searching for something lost who meets a kind, well dressed older man when she is at her most desperate.
The video was completed and colored on March 9th, 2010 and is currently awaiting the television broadcast premiere which is targetted for the summer of 2010, after which it will be released online in 1080p High Definition.

For crew's reference and clarity, a scribbled version of the music video was created on the backs of index cards a few days before the shoot date. The cards were gathered into random groups of two and photographed on my desk. Size, quality and detail gradually fade the later/earlier it got. |
